Jake, a wiry thirteen-year-old with glasses slipping down his nose, weaves between defenders and arcs the ball straight into the net. His teammates cheer, but a few on the sidelines whisper and nudge, still seeing him as the "nerd" of the group. As practice wraps up, Jacob jogs over, his math book tucked under one arm.
"Hey Jake, could you help me study for the math test on Friday? Steve's coming too. We could do it at my place," Jacob suggests, hopeful.
"Sure, sounds good. See you Friday!"
Steve, tall and awkward, flips through his notes, while Jacob frowns at his worksheet. Jake sits at the head of the table, calmly walking both through equations, his patient voice breaking down tough concepts.
"For a nerd, you’re a pretty good teacher," Steve jokes, a grin flashing.
"Yeah, thanks Jake. I think I’m getting it—slowly," Jacob says, relief in his voice.
"You guys want to spend the night?" Jake asks, hopeful for some fun after all the work. Both Jacob and Steve nod, excited.
They set up sleeping bags, laughter echoing as they compare favorite movies and tell stories about their day.
Steve[/@ch_3] pulls out a silver pocket watch, its surface glinting with rainbow colors in the lamp’s light.]
"That’s so cool, Steve! Where’d you get it?"
"My grandpa gave it to me. See, in the right light, you can see a rainbow..." Steve holds it up, and the others lean in, mesmerized by the swirling colors.
The air is thick with anticipation as Steve gently swings the watch, his voice slow and low. Jake and Jacob watch intently, their eyelids drooping, the world narrowing to the glimmer of the spinning watch.
"You’re feeling sleepy... when I snap my fingers, you’ll think you’re dogs and strip to your underwear," Steve intones, unable to hide a mischievous grin. Suddenly, a snap rings out, and Jake and Jacob obediently shed their clothes, now clad in tight white briefs, crawling and barking playfully as Steve bursts into laughter.
Another snap, and the boys blink, confused, convinced they’re fully dressed. They flop onto the couch, eyes glued to the TV, while Steve stifles giggles.
"You know you’re both just in your undies, right?" Steve teases, but Jake and Jacob just shrug, unfazed.
Jake[/@ch_1] wakes early, embarrassed to find his bed wet, while Steve stirs, discovering the same.]
Jake grins sheepishly, remembering a prank he’d heard about, and quietly slips both Steve and Jacob’s hands into bowls of warm water, hoping to even the score. But when they all wake, only Jake and Steve have wet beds; Jacob is dry, a secretive smile on his lips.
With a burst of friendly rivalry, Jake and Steve team up and, laughing, tug down Jacob’s pajama pants—only to find him wearing a dry diaper.
"We won’t tell anyone," Jake promises, and the three dissolve into giggles, a shared secret binding them closer as the sunlight quietly fills the room.
