Roo loved spending warm spring days on the lanai of her Florida home. She stretched lazily, her fur absorbing the sun’s warmth. Her eyes half-closed in contentment, she relaxed to the soft chirping of the song birds and the splashing of the ducks in the pond in her backyard. Roo liked to make friends with all the creatures that lived in the backyard. She was even fond of the small alligator that floated in the water or basked on the banks, although she was always careful he didn't come too close to the house. Roo loved her life just as it was and she hoped it never changed. Suddenly, a shadow crossed her path. Curious, she lifted her head and peered forward.
Roo watched them with a mix of wonder and apprehension. She wasn't used to unannounced visitors so near her lanai. A group of large birds were peering through the screen. They made a loud sound. The noises scared Roo a little but there was something about these birds that made her curious. She had never seen creatures so tall and graceful before. "Who are these giants?" she mused silently, inching closer for a better look.
Roo held her ground, her heart pounding with a mixture of fear and fascination. The crane paused a few feet away, tilting its head as if considering her presence. "Hello, little one," the crane seemed to say with a gentle coo.
Roo felt her initial fear melt away, replaced by an inexplicable sense of calm. She dared to step forward, her nose twitching with curiosity. "You’re not so scary after all," she thought, inching closer to the crane.
The crane lowered its head, and with a soft rustle of feathers, it placed its beak on the screen touching Roo's nose. "We’re friends now," Roo thought, a soft purr rumbling deep in her chest.
The cranes remained in the yard for the afternoon, their graceful forms danced as the breeze ruffled the feathers on their expansive wings. . The sun began to set and the cranesAs they settled by the water. Roo heard the voices of her humans calling her in for the day. As she hopped off the patio chair, Roofelt a flutter of excitement. She was proud of herself for her bravery. She had stepped out of her comfort zone and met new friends. "Tomorrowis another day for adventure," she thought, ready to explore the backyard wonders with her newfound companions.
