Ella sat on the porch steps, her hands fidgeting with the hem of her dress. Today was the day her family would grow, and she couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness.
"I wonder what it'll be like," she mused aloud, her gaze fixed on the street.
Dad emerged from the driver’s seat, a broad smile lighting up his face. Mom, carrying the bundle, followed closely behind.
"Ella, come meet your new brother," she called softly.
Ella approached tentatively, her heart pounding with curiosity and a touch of fear. In Mom's arms lay a tiny baby, his eyes closed and his small hands curled into fists.
"This is Lucas," Dad said gently.
Ella sat close to Lucas, her initial apprehension melting away. She reached out and touched his tiny hand, feeling a connection she hadn't expected.
"He's so small," she whispered, marveling at her new brother.
Ella thought about how life would change with Lucas around. Her worries gradually faded, replaced by a budding sense of responsibility and affection.
"I'll be the best big sister ever," she vowed to herself, smiling at the thought.
As the family gathered around the dining table, laughter and chatter filled the air. Ella felt a newfound warmth, knowing that her world had expanded in the most wonderful way.
"Welcome home, Lucas," she said, her heart full of love.
