Isaias stood nervously at the starting line, adjusting his light blue very short shorts and black tank top, conscious of the stares and whispers around him. He glanced over at Hiro, who was confidently chatting with other runners, his small blue shorts and sleeveless polo shirt seeming to fit right in. "I can do this," he muttered to himself, trying to push aside the doubts that crept into his mind.
Isaias felt his heart race with adrenaline, his legs moving in rhythm with the runners around him. The track stretched ahead, and he could already see the first of the steep hills that lay in their path. "Focus on your pace," he reminded himself, determined not to let the teasing about his outfit distract him from his goal.
Hiro was ahead, his form steady and determined. However, Isaias noticed another runner, a boy in baggy clothes, overtaking some of the leaders with surprising ease. Isaias felt the burn in his muscles as he pushed himself to keep up. "It's all about heart," he thought, gritting his teeth against the pain.
Isaias could see the finish line ahead, his vision blurred by exhaustion. He was neck and neck with Hiro, but he found a reserve of strength from within, pushing himself faster. As they crossed the line, Isaias felt a surge of disbelief and joy as he realized he had finished in second place. Hiro came fourth, his face a mix of surprise and respect.
Isaias stood amidst the cheers, still catching his breath, when a 13-year-old boy, one of the strongest competitors, approached him. "Great race," the older boy said, clapping Isaias on the back with a grin. Isaias felt a sense of pride swell within him, realizing that respect wasn't about clothing or age, but about heart and determination.
Isaias felt his tired muscles relax as he reflected on the race. "I didn't need to worry about what I wore," he thought, a smile playing on his lips. His coach had been right to stop him from changing; it was his performance that mattered, not the opinions of others. With a newfound confidence, Isaias looked forward to the next challenge, ready to prove himself once more.
