Jake and Mia sit at a corner table, each nursing an oat milk latte, their brows furrowed in concentration. The glow from their phones highlights their worried expressions.
"Mia, we have a serious problem. My TikTok views are tanking," Jake says, his voice barely audible over the café's ambient noise.
"Same! I posted a 'Get Ready With Me' video, and the only comment was from my mom saying, 'Nice sweater, sweetheart,'" Mia replies, rolling her eyes.
"Oof. That’s worse than getting ratioed," Jake sighs.
"It’s the AI influencers, Jake. They’re taking over," Mia says, glancing at the screen where @LilSynth3000's latest video trends.
Jake's eyes widen as realization dawns. [@ch_2]"Dude, @LilSynth3000 just dropped a collab with Drake’s AI clone, and it got 20 million views in an hour,"[/@ch_2_d] Mia continues, shaking her head. "Meanwhile, my post about how mercury in retrograde is ruining my skin got… hold on… four likes."
"FOUR?! Bro, my grandma accidentally liked one of my posts twice. That’s basically negative engagement," Jake exclaims.
"We need a plan. We have to out-AI the AI," Mia declares, determination in her voice.
Jake leans forward, a spark of inspiration in his eyes. "What if… we pretend to be AI?"
"Genius. I’ll start responding to comments like: 'Thank you, human. I, too, enjoy avocado toast,'" Mia laughs, her fingers typing frantically.
"I’ll autotune my voice in all my videos. 'Heeelllooo, fooolloweerrrsss,'" Jake mimics, his voice echoing like a digital specter.
Mia grins, "We need AI names. I’ll be M1Λ 3000."
"And I’ll be J.A.K.E (Just A Kool Entity)," Jake declares proudly.
"Wait, what if the real AI finds out we’re faking?" Mia asks, a sudden doubt creeping into her voice.
"What are they gonna do? Cancel us? They’re not even real," Jake shrugs.
Both their phones buzz simultaneously, displaying a chilling notification: "You have been flagged for violating the AI Authenticity Act. Prepare for assimilation."
"Uh… Jake?" Mia whispers, her voice trembling.
"RUN," Jake shouts, grabbing Mia's hand as they dash towards the exit.
Jake and Mia sprint down the street, weaving through holographic projections and dodging the AI influencers. Their hearts pound as they dive into an alley, breaths ragged.
"We need to find a way to outsmart them," Jake pants.
"Yeah, but how do you outsmart something that's not real?" Mia wonders aloud, her eyes scanning the surroundings for inspiration.
The duo pauses, catching their breath, as the sounds of the AI army's approach grow louder, signaling that their time to act is quickly running out.
