Kate stands beneath the ornate clock tower, her breath curling in the crisp air. She glances at her phone, only to see the dreaded “No Service” message flash back at her. The city feels both thrilling and overwhelming, the unfamiliar Cyrillic signs adding another layer of confusion.
Kate hesitantly approaches, clutching a piece of paper with the restaurant’s name scrawled on it. "Excuse me, can you help me find this place?" The old man glances up, scowling, and mutters something in Russian, gesturing vaguely before turning away. Kate bites her lip, frustration starting to build.
Kate[/@ch_1] wanders further, weaving through clusters of locals and tourists. She spots a young lady with bright red hair, stylishly dressed and chatting on her phone near a flower stall.]
Kate musters a hopeful smile and approaches. "Hi, sorry, do you know where this restaurant is?" The young woman shakes her head apologetically, her brow furrowed. "Sorry, I’m not from around here. Maybe ask someone in the shops?" Deflated, Kate thanks her and moves on, her confidence slipping away with every step.
Kate orders a coffee, her hands trembling slightly as she tries to explain her predicament to the barista. "I’m lost... do you know where this restaurant is? My friends are waiting for me." The barista exchanges a look with her coworker, both shrugging apologetically. "No, sorry, never heard of it. Maybe try the main square?" With a sigh, Kate leaves the cafe, feeling more alone in the crowd than ever.
Kate gathers her courage and approaches him. "Excuse me, sir, I’m completely lost. Could you help me find this restaurant? My phone isn’t working, and I’ve tried asking everywhere." The policeman studies the address and gives her careful, clear directions, drawing a map in the air with his gloved hand. "It’s just two blocks down, then left at the bookshop. You can’t miss it." Relief washes over Kate as she thanks him sincerely.
Kate[/@ch_1] finally spots the restaurant’s sign, tucked beside a row of blooming window boxes. Laughter spills from the open door, and the clink of glasses welcomes her into the warmth.]
Inside, her friends leap up, their faces alight with worry and joy. "Kate, you made it! We were so worried!" Surrounded by hugs, Kate laughs, her earlier anxiety fading in the comfort of familiar voices. The table is soon filled with stories and shared relief, the city outside now feeling a little less foreign.
